But it must be in keeping with the safety of the surroundings. But, once outside the prison while escorting inmates in the community, warning shots are no longer authorized.

I agree with it all. There seemed to be a struggle identifying a time or place, particularly on law enforcement where training would dictate a warning shot being authorized. I have one for you! I‘m retired from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR). According to California correctional peace officer standards and training, correctional officers are authorized to use a warning shot only in the confines of the prison and use of deadly forces already warranted.
